Winona-Ryder

Winona Ryder is the professionally-known name of Winona Laura Hoowitz who was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her after the town she grew up in. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder is a self-described Jewish, is descended from Ryder's Jewish father. Ryder is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her younger sister is Uria. Ryder's family relocated to Mendocino County in California at the age of 7 years old. In Mendocino County, they did not have electricity. Ryder who read a lot when she was 12 became a book worm because Ryder did not have access to television. In 1983 when she was twelve, Ryder enrolled in the American Conservatory Theatre to take acting classes. In 1986 she landed her first big-screen role in the film Lucas when she was just fifteen years old. Ryder faced bullying in high school. Ryder hoped her career as an actor would be able to help. It didn't turn out. But that didn't stop her pursuing dreams. Beetlejuice which was a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first big breakthrough. Ryder was able to continue her successful performances in a variety of films. She was nominated for two Academy Awards one for her performance on The Age of Innocence (1993).
